A US nuclear submarine USS Connecticut struck an “Unidentified Submerged Object” while submerged in waters off the Asia-Pacific region, injuring several sailors, US officials reported.
According to what has been unofficially leaked, the object was huge and caused great damage. Fortunately, there were no fatalities.
It was unclear what caused Saturday’s incident, they said, but the vessel remained “fully operational.”
Unidentified officials told US media that the collision occurred in international waters in the South China Sea and that 11 sailors were injured – all of them were treated inside the ship after the collision.
The Object was not a submarine
According to the AP agency , officials said the object the USS Connecticut collided with was not another submarine.
One of the officials cited by the agency said it could have been a sunken vessel or container or another unknown object.
Alexander Neill, a Singapore-based defense and security expert, told the BBC that the number of injuries caused by the collision suggested that the submarine probably “hit something big that was going very fast.”
The incident, he said, was “rare but not unheard of” and had exposed how busy the area was with military activities.
“The South China Sea is populated with naval vessels from several different countries. While there has been a lot of show of force from the surface craft, you don’t see the level of activity below the surface, ”Neill explained.
In comments published by the Chinese state daily Global Times , a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said China was “seriously concerned” about the incident and asked the United States to provide more details, including the purpose of the mission.
It was later reported that the submarine was heading towards the US territory of Guam.
Unidentified Submerged Object?
The mystery of the case and the little that has been made known, as well as China not taking responsibility that it was theirs, has led to several quite justified speculations.
The most popular and one that has not taken long to become popular is that the USS Connecticut had a close encounter with Unidentified Submerged Object.
And is that the latest revelations towards the possible underwater origin of some UFOs – or at least UFOs with underwater bases – have been half recognized by the US Navy itself.
Did the US nuclear submarine come across one of these objects? Recent unconfirmed comments – and contradicting official reports – seem to point in that direction:
An alleged diver related to the incident reportedly commented that only an object with propulsion “can go that fast” at those depths and that the encounter took place in just a few seconds, superficially damaging “half of the submarine” and then the submarine was towed away by eight boats.
The unidentified military officer also acknowledged the possibility that it was a “Unidentified Submerged Object”, noting that photos of the incident could appear in a period of two weeks.
For now, no further details have been disclosed, but we will inform you here if something strange arises.
