The new Apple Vision Pro (mixed reality headsets) have just gone on sale in the United States, and the first scenes that their wearers offer us are assimilated to a feared and hackneyed dystopian future. So much so that comparisons have already arisen with the series Black Mirror and The Simpsons but the main question is did The Simpsons predict Apple Vision Pro 8 years ago?
The Apple Vision Pro are glasses that allow users to seamlessly integrate the real world with virtual reality. This device can superimpose objects from the digital ecosystem onto our real environment. In other words, those who wear these glasses will be able to see, hear, and interact with digital content as naturally as if they were immersed in a physical space.
Just a couple of days ago, on February 2, they went on sale for $3,500. Thousands of American enthusiasts headed to their nearest store to purchase the novelty and – with the pretense of technological influencers – shared it with their online followers, resulting in quite dystopian scenes.

On the networks, you can see people walking with these visors like zombies or sitting making movements with their hands that seem almost ridiculous to the casual viewer. This was quickly compared to an October 2016 episode of The Simpsons (S28:E2, Friends and Family ):
Others pointed to a real-life version of Black Mirror, ensuring that the future shown by this British series is already beginning to show itself worryingly and you just need to be able to block the people you dislike from even seeing or listening to it with these visors on.
“At first, I felt a bit ridiculous pinching the air with my index finger and thumb while I was in the Apple store, but I remembered that there were dozens of people doing the same thing around me,” said Matthew Phelan, a reporter for the Daily Mail. “Hand gestures allowed me to zoom in and out of web pages, images, and other content, as well as expand or shrink each floating window within Apple’s glasses operating system, VisionOS.”
“Apple Vision Pro’s VisionOS allowed me to adjust the level of immersive experience, fading in or out of my current reality and digital experience with something resembling a crossfade “solvent” on film. “Often, that fade would expand and retract from each application window, like a blurrier version of the iris closing at the end of an old cartoon,” he added.
For now, it remains to be seen what the consequences of this technology are and how it will affect the sociability of people outside their homes, with the mobile virtual world moving from the reach of our hands to our eyes… The next step – and considering what it does Neuralink recently implanted brain chips in humans — it will surely be from our eyes to directly our brain.
