The Pentagon has identified western and southern Japan as a hot spot for UFO sightings, based on 27 years of data that has been released to the public for the first time.

map published on the recently launched All Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) website shows where the most sightings have been recorded using data from 1996 to 2023.

Western and southern Japan, near the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, where the United States dropped atomic bombs in August 1945, are listed as two of the “hot spots”—a term that in ufology refers to an area with a large amount of UFO sightings.

Other unconfirmed sightings have turned Iino-machi, in Japan’s Fukushima prefecture, into a tourist hotspot known colloquially as “UFO town. ” Local authorities have installed themed bus shelters and streetlights in a bid to attract visitors interested in extraterrestrial life.

In this town—now merged into the city of Fukushima—there is also the International UFO Laboratory, a research institute that claimed to have received 494 reports of suspicious sightings in the last year.

In addition to this area in the country of the rising sun, where places where events related to nuclear energy have occurred clearly stand out, there are also regions where military troops are deployed or there are war conflicts, such as Iraq and Syria in the Middle East, and the American Southeast.

Taking into account who collected the data and when, the pattern observed for the “hot spots” is understandable, focused on areas of interest to the United States and its narrative of viewing the unidentified as a possible threat to national security. It is also known that UFOs have shown an excessive interest in nuclear facilities since the nuclear bombs at the end of World War II, something that could respond more specifically to what happened in Japan.
